Mikki has raised a number of good questions, about the nature of a museum's contribution to AMICO and the nature of the license. We had envisioned the following scenario: Museums license "works" to AMICO. A work is defined as a multi-media package, comprised of an image or images of something in a museum collection, accompanied by documentation in text or other media, including sound or motion video. AMICO can then relicense all or part of this multi-media package. Under different circumstances, some or all of the data would be included. We see AMICO negotiating a series of licenses, tailored for particular markets. For example, the K-12 market may not see real value in licensing technical conservation reports. It is unlikely that the image is licensed alone, and as Mikki expressed, it maybe not desirable. Interpretation is part of the role of museums. AMICO members will need to decide what is the minimum acceptable documentation that will be distributed. Certainly in the context of the University License Agreement, the full AMICO documentation would be included in the Library that is licensed. This is a major part of the value of the Library to the university community. Hope this clarifies things. jennifer J. Trant, Archives & Museum Informatics, jtrant@archimuse.com |
