In the straw poll, Steve Dietz commented here "I would like to see some parameters". This is one of those places where we tried to use the way the university defines itself to an external body as a framework. Thus if the university declares its medical school, clinics, research institute in Florence, etc. as part of the University when it defines itself to the Carnegie (or whatever other measure is agreed) then those people subsumed under that definition are considered within the university community. Affiliates outside this definition would presumably need to be separately licensed. This allows us to include the universities teacher education facility, distance learning students, etc. if THEY do when defining themselves to a third party, and NOT if they don't. They idea was to avoid the requirement for institution by institution, person by person, inclusion and exclusion. Do you think it can work? If so, we would define the parameters here, as Steve asks, with that sort of boundary. David |
