David and Jennifer:

Thanks for the excellent summary of at least some of the issues
relating to contemporary artists and AMICO. The more that I think
about this the more that I wonder how much of this is ascribable to
fear of the unknown on the part of artists. Or, if not the unknown,
fear of the rumored.

While I agree that we need to move forward in the directions you
indicate, I also think that some artists won't be convinced by a
flock (are we a flock or a gaggle?) of museum people. Once AMICO is
up and running it will be easier to demonstrate - and I think a
demonstration is worth much more than our verbal and written
attempts to convince. And once AMICO has a track record, there will
be success stories and - hopefully - few abuse stories floating
around. Artists (and their dealers) eventually may well be the best
voices for AMICO - artists who have been included and who have liked
the process - or who will at least attest to the fact that nothing
went wrong.
