Dear AMICO Rights Committee: We've been working on the list of works in the AMICO Library that may be under copyright. This has proven a difficult task. As you know, copyright is based on the date of the death of the creator, or the date of "publication" of a work. Neither of these are data elements that are present, consistently, in the AMICO Library! (This exercise may be enough to motivate me to make sure that they are...) So... We've indexed the creation date of works in the Library, based on the data that you've supplied, and rules that we have developed. This has identified about 3200 works that were created after 1920 (an arbitrary, but seemingly "safe" date). I've now got a list of these works, and a list of the artists that created them, in an Excel Spreadsheet. I'd be happy to share this with anyone that wants it. It seems a bit much, though, to mark up and put on the AMICO web site. So, please email me at jtrant@amico.org and I'll send it to you, either as an excel file or as a tab delimited text file. With luck, just knowing who's contacted whom will facilitate clearing rights for the 1999 Library. Negotiations continue with the ARS, and we've been contacted by VAGA. I'll keep you posted as things develop. Happy New Year! jennifer |
