In the straw poll, Steve Dietz asked for further explanation. He said he was "not sure where this 'personal use' comes in given requirement elsewhere for educational uses". It's hard to describe 'life-long learning' as an 'educational use' though clearly the reason museums might be interested in offering a license to home users is that they support this concept. We were floating this to see what potential AMICO participants think - we know some museum directors that are very excited about reaching out to the continuous education world this way. We hope it is clear that such an AMICO 'product' would involve a different license from the one being discussed here for university use. Also making a 'library' which contained the kind of content that would work for either the K-12 market or the home market is still something that requires a great deal of study. We anticipate that it would have much more 'authored' (or edited) content and quite different user interfaces and server support structures than were created under the MESL experiment for example. In the business planning framework we've proposed that if the idea is seen to have merit, initial studies for such a product might take place around year four. David |
