In the straw poll, Steve Dietz asked for further explanation and noted "this depends on where there controls are implemented". As a practical matter, finding a balance in implementing controls and figuring out what levels of quality can be achieved will be a challenge. As a matter of principle, however, I think one of the things which AMICO, and museums individually, will want to promote is the quality of their documentation over that easily available through other sources. I often point out that its easier to send an artist off to draw a sacraphogus than to get a documented image of a real one, but if we in museums want to promote real artifacts as real evidence of culture, we need to do better than the commercial market. Fortunately our higher education brethren understand this and seem willing to pay for the difference, to both our benefits... David
