I'd favour a use of Object type that was more narrow -- a limited list of terms that enables users to put together broad 'clusters' of works - with additional terms recorded in classification.

This would follow your approach -- of putting manuscript in Object Type, and "book of hours" in Classification term. Do others agree?

Laura is now looking at the Object Type term occurrence list, and will have some suggestions to make shortly about what that short list should look like.
