The MFA, Boston is very much in favor of enhancing the database as information is ready to be loaded. While it would be confusing for users to have information withdrawn, the ongoing growth of the AMICO database would provide constant incentive to subscribe and search the resource. An analogy worth noting is found in the growth of online research databases such as Art Index, Bibliography of the History or Art, and various auction indexes. Information is never held back for periodic release; the databases are updated daily. In the long run, I trust we will have the means of loading our records and images into AMICO/RLG as part of the weekly, or daily, workflow in each museum. Why not start now and generate excitment about the ongoing growth of AMICO. |
