Research Conference on Educational Use of Museum Multimedia: the case of The AMICO Library

Carnegie Mellon University
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, June 3-4, 1999

AMICO seeks proposals for reports from the AMICO University Testbed Project, to be presented to a joint meeting of Testbed Participants and AMICO Members.

Goals and Objectives In the fall of 1998, a select group received early access to the digital library of museum multimedia created by the Art Museum Image Consortium (AMICO) as delivered by the Research Libraries Group (RLG). Research projects have been ongoing on each of these campuses exploring the challenges of integrating museum multimedia into university teaching and research. Proposals are invited for papers and presentations that report on the University Testbed Experience, and address its Research Objectives. See http://www.amico.org /project/objectives.html

This two-day meeting will bring together researchers engaged in the University Testbed project, and AMICO Members, so that they can discuss their studies and observations. We hope the many participants will enjoy an open dialogue with each other, and that together we can build a better understanding of the issues involved in creating and using The AMICO Library. We look forward to a lively exchange of opinions and observations and the discussion of conclusions among a group of informed and engaged researchers.

Publication Selected papers from the Research Conference will be published as a special issue of Archives and Museum Informatics; the cultural heritage informatics quarterly, a peer-reviewed journal from Kluwer Academic Publishers.

Deadlines Proposals must be received by April 30, 1999. The program will be announced by May 10, 1999.

Registration The meeting is open to all staff, students and researchers affiliated with University Testbed Participants, and AMICO Members. Advance registration (which will be completed via the AMICO University Testbed website) and a fee of $75 (US) is required to help cover costs.
